SKUGLD-RDS

The radiant cut was created in 1977 by Henry Grossbard as the first rectangular diamond to feature a complete brilliant-cut facet pattern on both the crown and pavilion. Where step-cuts like the emerald and Asscher use long, parallel facets, the radiant uses 70 triangular and kite-shaped brilliant facets — the same type used in round brilliants. The result is a rectangular stone with significantly more fire and brilliance than any step-cut: it combines the shape versatility of a rectangle with the sparkle intensity of a round. The cropped corners distinguish it visually from a princess cut and make it more resistant to chipping at the corners. Our radiant diamonds are held in a clean solitaire mount in 18K gold to allow full light entry through all sides.

Radiant Cut Diamond Solitaire Ring

The radiant cut is the brilliant answer to the rectangular diamond question. If you want a modern, elongated silhouette but find the step-cut's restrained sparkle too subtle, the radiant cut is your stone: 70 brilliant facets arranged in a rectangular outline with cropped corners produce the same level of fire and light return as a round brilliant, but in a shape that reads as contemporary and distinctive on the finger.

First designed in 1977, the radiant was the first fancy shape to apply a full brilliant-cut facet pattern to a non-round outline. The cropped corners also give the radiant an important practical advantage over the princess cut: there are no sharp 90-degree corners to chip. Set in a clean solitaire in 18K gold, the radiant diamond sits high enough for light to enter from below, animating all 70 facets simultaneously.

Lab-grown CVD radiant diamonds cost 50–60% less than mined equivalents of the same grade — which means a 1.50ct lab radiant is priced comparably to a 0.70ct mined stone of similar quality. The face-up size difference is immediately visible.

  • Radiant cut — 70 brilliant facets in a rectangular outline
  • Maximum brilliance of any non-round fancy cut
  • Cropped corners — more durable than princess, cleaner than emerald
  • D–E colour, VVS/VS clarity — brilliant white and eye-clean
  • CVD lab-grown — real diamond, ethical origin
  • IGI grading certificate included
  • 50–60% less than equivalent mined radiant solitaires

Radiant vs. Emerald cut — the key difference. Both are rectangular. The emerald cut uses step facets (long, parallel rows) producing a clear, glassy look with broad flashes of light. The radiant cut uses brilliant facets (triangular and kite-shaped) producing intense fire and sparkle. If you prefer restrained elegance, choose emerald. If you want the sparkle of a round brilliant in a rectangular shape, choose radiant. Our radiant diamonds are selected for excellent length-to-width ratios (1.20–1.40) to ensure a visually balanced rectangle on the finger.

Caring for Your Radiant Cut Solitaire Ring

The radiant cut's cropped corners make it one of the most practical fancy shapes to wear daily. Unlike princess cuts (which have sharp 90-degree corners that chip more readily) or marquise cuts (with two exposed points), the radiant's chamfered corners distribute stress evenly and are much less likely to chip from normal wear.

Cleaning at Home: Soak for two minutes in warm water with mild dish soap. Use a soft toothbrush to clean around and underneath the prongs — the radiant cut's many facets respond dramatically to cleaning, showing a marked increase in sparkle. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a lint-free cloth.

Daily Wear: The radiant is one of the most durable fancy cuts. Remove before swimming, perfume, or vigorous activities, but it handles the rigours of daily office and social wear well. Annual professional prong check recommended.

Why This Ring

The Radiant Advantage

Why the radiant cut has become the best-selling rectangular diamond shape for engagement rings.

70 Brilliant Facets

The radiant cut applies the same brilliant-cut facet pattern used in round diamonds to a rectangular outline — producing intense fire and sparkle that no step-cut can match. The most luminous of all rectangular diamond shapes.

Cropped Corners · Durable

The four corners of the radiant are cropped (chamfered), removing the vulnerable 90-degree points of a princess cut. This makes the radiant significantly more resistant to chipping from normal wear — the ideal choice for everyday wearers.

IGI Certified · VVS/VS · D–E

D–E colour ensures the radiant is brilliantly white. VVS/VS clarity guarantees an eye-clean stone with no visible inclusions. Both confirmed by the IGI grading certificate included with every ring — independently verified, not self-declared.

18K Gold · Three Metals

White gold is the most popular setting for radiant cuts — the cool tone highlights the D–E colour grade and gives the stone a modern, clean look. Yellow and rose gold both work beautifully for a warmer aesthetic. All 18K (750 — 75% pure gold).

Questions

Frequently Asked

Everything you need to know about the Radiant Cut Diamond Solitaire Ring before you buy.

Both are square or rectangular brilliant cuts with approximately the same number of facets and similar levels of sparkle. The key difference is in the corners. A princess cut has four sharp 90-degree corners — these are the most structurally vulnerable points of the stone and are more likely to chip from impact. A radiant cut has four cropped (chamfered) corners, which distribute stress more evenly and are significantly more durable. The radiant also has a slightly softer, more rounded visual outline compared to the hard angles of a princess. For everyday wear, we recommend the radiant over the princess for its superior durability.

Very different. The emerald cut uses step facets — long, parallel rows that produce broad flashes of light and a glassy, mirror-like appearance. It is subtle and architectural. The radiant cut uses brilliant facets — 70 triangular and kite-shaped facets that scatter light in many directions simultaneously. The result is intense fire and sparkle closer to a round brilliant than to an emerald. Choose emerald for restrained elegance and depth; choose radiant if you want maximum brilliance in a rectangular shape.

Yes — completely real. Lab-grown CVD diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds. Both are pure carbon in a cubic crystal lattice. The difference is only origin: mined diamonds form underground over billions of years; ours are grown in a controlled chamber over 6–10 weeks. The IGI grades them to exactly the same standards, and no gemologist can distinguish them by sight or instrument.

We select radiant diamonds with a length-to-width ratio between 1.20 and 1.40 — the range that produces a visually balanced rectangle that reads as neither too square nor too elongated on the finger. Ratios below 1.20 tend to look more square (similar to a cushion cut); ratios above 1.40 look too elongated for most preferences. Our selection sits in the sweet spot for the classic radiant silhouette. The IGI certificate includes the exact measurements of your stone.

EU ring sizes correspond to the inner circumference of the ring in millimetres. Wrap a strip of paper around your finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length in mm — that is your EU size. The most common EU size for women is 52–54. If between sizes, size up for comfort. Free resizing is included within 60 days of purchase. Use our ring sizing guide for a more precise measurement.
