What Is a Solitaire Engagement Ring?
A solitaire engagement ring features a single centre diamond held securely by prongs — typically four or six — on a plain or lightly tapered band. It is the most enduring style in fine jewellery: classic, architectural, and designed to draw every eye to the diamond itself.
The 4-prong setting (used in our Lumina Solitaire) maximises light exposure to the diamond, while a 6-prong setting offers greater security, ideal for larger stones above 1.5ct. For emerald and other step cuts, a 6-prong or bezel setting is preferred to protect the characteristic corners. Lab-grown diamonds are ideal for solitaires precisely because their exceptional clarity and colour are fully displayed — no halo or side stones to distract.
